40' Manta Catamaran: SCOLA

The name SCOLA is derived from the first initial of all of our family members.  My family and I take great pride in our Manta 40.  It has been a wonderful adventure for us and it is now time for SCOLA to become a member of a new family.

Single SailorThe Manta 40 is built in the USA and is one of the most economical and reliable cruisers on the market. It is easy to sail and is well-built and designed with the live-aboard cruiser in mind. The SCOLA is meticulously maintained and ready for the new owner.

Please take time to view all the information on SCOLA and the Manta 40.  I'm sure you'll appreciate the design features of this wonderful catamaran.  If you wish to visit or take a sea trial please click here.

"Sailing SCOLA"

I selected the Manta 40 for its ease in single-handed operation.  While sailing I don't usually have to leave the comfort of the cockpit.  All the lines converge at the same two-speed electric which is by the helm.

From the helmsman's seat I have all the navigation instruments and the engine controls available.  I only have to go to the navigation table to check my track and position on the electronic charts.

Under sail, tacking and gibing are fully automated.  The Manta is unique in the catamaran world with its boomed jib, which prevents the usual and often dismal 'jib sheet jams'.  As for the main sail the two single line reefs are controlled from the helmsman's location.  The strong aluminum bimini allows me to access the main sail on the whole length of the boom.

The sail plan is not only easy, but efficient.  Even single-handed I can go up to 10 knots under sail.  I remember beating a 40' Aussie cat by one-hour between Staniel Cay and Georgetown.  When the boat reaches the double-digit barrier I generally take another reef because I don't want to push my luck too far.

If a boat like the Manta 40 is easy to sail single-handed.  Imagine how easy it is with a crew of family or friends to share your passion.
